If your child is serious about music, the right training can make all the difference.
Every year, families search for terms like music college prep, music scholarships for high school students, or music programs near me. They often discover dozens of options—but very few programs offer the combination of rigorous musical training, mentorship, affordability, and national recognition found at Phoenix Conservatory of Music (PCM).
As Arizona’s only Berklee City Music Network affiliate, PCM’s College Prep Program is designed for motivated young musicians who want to grow as performers, creators, leaders, and future college students.
Whether your goal is earning a college scholarship, preparing for auditions, or simply becoming the best musician you can be, here’s what makes PCM different.
Arizona’s Only Berklee City Music Network Affiliate
Phoenix Conservatory of Music is proud to be the only Arizona member of the Berklee City Music Network, a consortium of more than 40 community organizations recognized by Berklee College of Music for providing high-quality contemporary music education. Through this affiliation, students benefit from Berklee’s nationally recognized PULSE curriculum, professional development opportunities, summer intensive pathways, and access to scholarship opportunities.
For students, this means they’re learning within a framework developed by one of the world’s leading contemporary music institutions—without leaving Arizona.
More Than Private Lessons
Many music schools focus solely on weekly private lessons.
At PCM, students become part of a collaborative musical community.
College Prep students receive a comprehensive experience that includes:
- Weekly ensembles
- Music theory
- Ear training
- Sight singing
- Rhythm studies
- Songwriting and composition
- Audio production
- Masterclasses with guest artists
- Performance opportunities throughout the year
- Leadership and service-learning experiences
This mirrors the collaborative environment students experience in college music programs while building the confidence and teamwork skills needed for success beyond music.
A Real Audition Process
The College Prep Program is designed for students who are committed to growing.
Admission includes:
- Online application
- Music theory placement assessment (new students)
- Live audition
- Faculty interview
- Academic eligibility review
During the audition, students perform two contrasting pieces, demonstrate basic sight-reading skills, and meet with faculty who are looking for musical potential, curiosity, and commitment—not perfection.
Our faculty understand that every young musician develops at a different pace. The audition helps us place students in the environment where they’ll thrive.
We Prepare Students for What’s Next
College acceptance is only one measure of success.
PCM helps students prepare for:
- College auditions and interviews with personalized college coaching and college counseling
- Summer intensive programs
- Scholarship applications
- Recording and performance opportunities
- Leadership roles
- Careers throughout the music industry
Through our Creative Youth Development approach, students also develop communication, resilience, professionalism, collaboration, and confidence—skills that serve them regardless of the career path they ultimately choose.
National Opportunities Begin in Phoenix
Each year, College Prep students participate in:
- Regional and national music festivals
- Summer intensive programs across the country
- Masterclasses with professional musicians
- Community performances
- College exploration experiences
Many students earn significant scholarships to continue studying music after graduation, while others pursue careers in education, production, performance, business, healthcare, engineering, and countless other fields.
Our goal isn’t simply to create professional musicians.
It’s to develop creative leaders.
Affordable Excellence
High-quality music education should never be limited by a family’s income.
PCM offers:
- Sliding-scale financial assistance
- Scholarship opportunities
- Flexible payment options
- Access to nationally recognized instruction regardless of financial circumstances
This commitment reflects our belief that talent exists everywhere—and opportunity should too.
