Summer Intensive Adjudication
Eligibility: Students ages 15 and up
Overview
The Summer Intensive Adjudications are designed to place students in the appropriate performance level and assess readiness for advanced summer music programs. Students perform individually and in an ensemble setting for evaluation by three external judges, who score on multiple categories, including technical skill, musicality, improvisation, and performance presence.
What to Prepare
1. Prepared Selection (3–5 minutes)

One piece of your choice (originals encouraged).

Can be performed solo or with backing tracks/accompaniment.

Be ready to briefly introduce your piece (title, composer, reason for selection).
2. Improvisation: 12-Bar Blues
-
Short ensemble improvisation.
-
Vocalists may improvise using any syllable or scatting.

Be prepared to take a short solo or trade fours and demonstrate listening, responding to chord changes, and ensemble awareness.

Rhythm section players will be evaluated on groove, feel, and ensemble communication.

Additional Information

Total adjudication time: 10-15 minutes per student.

Bring your instrument, accessories, and any backing tracks.

A keyboard, PA system, and drum kit will be provided.

Adjudications held on November 8, 2025 from 4:30pm-7:30pm at Phoenix Conservatory of Music
