How Music Education Transforms Lives

When I think about the transformative power of music, especially music education, it makes my heart skip a beat. Without going down a crazy rabbit hole, the thoughts of string theory, the creation of the universe, and looking at the aesthetics of the proportions of music and Fibonacci sequences float around in my brain. It can make the average person feel a little lost, and the average musician humbled.  

But then I think about the work that we do here and how the impact of that work; where each learned note, learned chord, learned phrase plus the experience of performing those same notes, chords and phrase equals exponential gains in a student’s courage, confidence, creativity, communication, and collaboration- I am left speechless.

And those are direct benefits. There are a ton of indirect benefits, everything from boosting emotional awareness and regulation, observing others, being able to reflect and make changes quickly to resolve problems, building fine and gross motor skills, academic achievement in language development, math and sequencing concepts, gains in spatial intelligence, memory enhancement, and stress reduction.
